WorkTime can operate in the following modes:
1. As a standalone application
2. In a Database Client-Server mode
3. In an Application Client-Server mode |
WorkTime as a standalone application
In a standalone mode WorkTime works on a single PC and stores all tracked
data in the local database.
How to setup
No changes are required, this is a default setup. No network connection
is required.
Database Client-Server
WorkTime can work in a database client-server mode, when WorkTime
client workstations use single server database to store all tracked data.
Database client-server mode is intended for workgroups.
Database client server mode supports setups where several (2 or
more) workstations work in network and where consolidated data access
is required.
Also this mode provides Offline Mode feature to support "temporary
out-of-network" workstations, such as laptops or remote VPN workstations.
With Offline Mode "temporary out-of-network" workstations can
work locally while not connected to the server database.
How to setup
Client applications should be configured to use server database, server
workstation should have Firebird database server installed and WorkTime
database created. In order to operate in the database client-server mode
at least temporary network connection is required.
See detailed instructions on how to setup database server and configure
WorkTime here.
Benefits
Centralized data storage (you can access all data from all client computers
in one place);
increased reliability and security control;
simplified setup and maintenance/upgrade.
Application Client-Server
WorkTime can work in an application client-server mode, when WorkTime
client workstations send tracked data to the WorkTime Server application,
that stores data into the server database.
Application client-server mode is intended for large workgroups.
This mode supports workgroups, especially distributed workgroups, where
some or all of the workstations do not have permanent LAN connection or
are firewalled, or there are remote sites/workers etc. and therefore there
is a need to use other than LAN connections to send data - such as FTP,
email or even manual submit.
How to setup
Server computer needs to have WorkTime Server installed and (optionally)
Firebird database server, client WorkTime needs to be configured to use
specified protocol/settings and scheduler to send tracked data. At least
temporary network connection is required.
See detailed instructions on how to setup application/database server and
configure WorkTime here.
Benefits
Supporting workgroups with distributed workplaces;
supporting workstations with very limited Internet connectivity or completely
off-network workstations;
centralized data storage (you can access all data from all client computers
in one place);
increased reliability and security control;
simplified setup and maintenance/upgrade;
controlling time usage at-a-glance;
advanced reliability and security.
